Actos (Pioglitazone) is an oral medication that was commonly prescribed by doctors, along with proper diet and exercise, to help control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. Recent studies: however, have linked Actos to heart problems and bladder cancer. It is not meant for people who have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
Actos has been know to cause or worsen congestive heart failure and if you have been taking this medicine and notice any shortness of breath, we urge you to call your doctor immediately. Taking this medicine can increase your risk of other medical problems, and not treating your diabetes can lead to other complications as well. It is important that you talk with your doctor about any side effects you have noticed while taking Actos, and be sure to do as much research as you can on your own to help determine the right medication for your type 2 diabetes.
Studies have also shown that some women using Actos have started their periods again, after not having one for a while due to medical reasons. If you have started your period because of taking Actos you should talk with a doctor, and remember to consider the fact that you can now become pregnant.
Type 2 Diabetes is The Most Common Form of Diabetes
People affected with diabetes have a problem with processing glucose, and their blood sugar levels are higher than those of normal individuals. This is because when you have type 2 diabetes your body does not use insulin properly, commonly called insulin resistance. Type 2 diabetes was once known as adult-onset or noninsulin-dependent diabetes. The body at first will begin to produce extra insulin from the pancreas, but over time your pancreas is not able to keep up enough insulin production to keep your blood glucose at normal levels. Although more common in adults, it is becoming more prevalent in children as the rate of child obesity increases.
Once you have developed type 2 diabetes it is important that you talk with your doctor, and do everything recommended to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. If left untreated, type 2 diabetes can cause a number of ancillary health problems, mainly those derived by poor blood circulation and hypertension. Simply put, when the body no longer maintains normal levels of blood glucose, it does not function properly. Type 2 diabetes can also be life threatening if left untreated.
If you or anyone you know has been affected by type 2 diabetes, and they were taking Actos for treatment, please have them give our office a call for a no obligation, FREE ACTOS CONSULTATION.
